Amazon resources on BBC website this week.

I hope those of you who sat Higher English had a profitable day today! Geography is now just a week away and you might like to have a little diversion from book-based revision and have a look at some of the resources on the Amazon ('the' Amazon as opposed to Amazon!) which have appeared on the BBC news web site this week.

Starting on Monday of this week there was an excellent graphical description of deforestation (click map above to link) which looked at extent, causes and consequences of deforestation. On the same day there was an article entitled 'Amazon future in delicate balance'

Yesterday there was a pictorial record of deforestation to look at including this 'cutting edge' image of farming encroaching on rainforest. There was also another set of images exploring the effect on deforestation on traditional Indian lifestyles. Today this was followed up by an article today looking at the dilemmas which the Indian tribes face and a second excellent repport on the Brazilian government's new plan for Sustainable Development of the Amazon (PAS).

There is some really excellent material in these resources. Use them - you never know what might 'crop' up in the Rural section!

P.S. Remember that if you want an afternoon of revision with Mrs W and myself, we will be available all next Wednesday afternoon in the Geography department.

This time next week it will be all over!
