End of the Chinese one child policy?

If you read back through many of the postings under the 'Population' label (use right sidebar to link), you will see that many of them flag up the problems which are associated with the Chinese one child policy. As a result of these and other problems, China may now be ready to relax its draconian population policy. Here are two articles on the subject which the 'Guardian' has carried recently...

Migration winners and losers

The BBC website is carrying an excellent article today (click image of ex pats in Spain to link) which explores the consequences of migration for both the losing and receiving countries. This is exactly the kind of twist which Higher questions on migration often contain.

It explores a number of issues such as the problem of overqualification of immigrants, the 'brain drain' of well educated people from LEDCs to MEDCs and the increase in ex pat numbers.

There are some very good statistics, some of which are converted into easily understood bar charts.

The side bar on the web page also contains a lot of good links, amongst which there is this very good fact file on global migration.
