China - cause and effect of climate change

Firstly, you might like to note that this is the 100th posting on the Higher Geog Blog. The first was written on 27th August last year but I didn't add a visitor counter until the end of November. It is now reading 7827 so with the addition of the months from August until November, the blog will have received well over 10,000 visits in nine months. It was originally intended to support pupils at HSD who are studying Higher Geography but I know its readership is much wider. You are all most welcome and I hope you have managed to get some additional help for your studies of Higher Geography from it.

On another tack, I was pleased to hear that the English Higher exam seemed to go well for most pupils. Hopefully you are all reassured by that encouraging start to the exam diet. Geography is now just 14 days and 20 hours away!

And on that subject, here is something for the Atmosphere section of paper 1... It's a video clip currently on the BBC website which explores China's contribution to global warming and also how climate change is affecting the country.

Remember that in the exam you would only have to refer to reasons for (and not consequences of) climate change. The video clip and these other links would be worth exploring..

On a related subject, though more weather change than climate change , comes the news that China intends to 'control' the weather for the 2008 Olympics.

The Beijing Weather Modification Office (should be a dawdle for a country where the government can 'modify' the way you think!) wants to ensure that weather like the summer deluge in Beijing shown above does not spoil the Olympics.
